During the last week of the summer holiday, 8 of us went on summer sailing week. We made a roundtrip between southwest Frisian lakes, some of the eleven cities, and we even went through the luts!
The week started quite intense with strong winds a big storm. Luckily we saw it coming, so we decided to hold off sailing for a day and do a bit of sightseeing in Sneek instead. When the big storm hit, we were safely underneath the roofed tables in the harbour. When we did sail out, we got some good training in sailing with greater wind speeds and how to rave (rif leggen). However, the rain and the splashes of waves drenched some of our stuff. A good reminder to always pack waterproof.
After the weekend, the weather changed drastically and it became hot, sunny, and much less windy. A good excuse to purchase some floaties and chill behind the sailboat (they are also very usefull to practice man overboard ;). The lower wind speeds also meant that we could do some fun activities on the water like tag and entering.
Aqua aquired two new skippers this week! Emma and Julian showed their best sailing (and poling; bomen in Dutch) skills and are now deemed worthy to sail on the valk by themselves.
After a final good night in a random Frisian pub (because we ourselves ran out of beer), we said goodbye to Friesland and drove back to Wageningen. During our dining stop at the Mac, we realised that we never took a group picture, so we hastily made a grouppic on their parking lot.
All in all, we had a great week and I am already looking forward to the next one!
